I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again. One of the greatest parts of traveling is trying the local food and drink. You can learn a lot about a place by the menu items they specialize in. Cape Cod was no exception to this learning opportunity, and I caught on very quickly that seafood defines the East Coast region. From lobster tails and oysters to clams and haddock, I tried everything from the sea that I could – and loved it.
Despite a few wrong turns and car arguments, our family trip to the Cape in July went off without a hitch. Ferry rides to Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard provided me with the chance to be by the ocean, explore new beach towns, and pop in and out of different local shops. Provincetown was as eclectic as I was told, and I had some of the most delicious coffee paired with an oceanside view.
Every time I travel, I always think in the back of my mind that I should carry around a notebook, a la Joan Didion, and jot down what I’m feeling and experiencing in the moment. But, distractions come at me by way of my constant photographing, and words get placed on the back burner.
Until the day comes when I’m serious about channeling my inner Joan, I’ll let my photos do the talking. Let’s face it. They do a better job of showing off my trip than my words ever could.

The last seafood dish we ordered at the Shack was baked oysters rockefeller ($12.95). Amazing.
This ahi tuna burger ($14.95) from Trader Ed’s was spicier than I was expecting but definitely worth the price. I paired it with a Cape Cod Blonde Ale that meshed well with the kick.
I stared at Trader Ed’s ceiling almost the entire time I was waiting for my food. So much to look at.
