Who’s watching the 20th Annual SAG Awards tonight?

After a Friday night out that caused my friends and I to get stuck in a near white-out of snow and freezing temperatures, I’m planning on staying in and curling up in bed. Thank God the SAG Awards are on tonight because it provides me with a semi-legitimate excuse to just be lazy.

When it comes to awards shows, I never miss the Golden Globes or the Oscars. My viewing of the SAGs, on the other hand, has been lacking over the past couple of years. I’m hoping to change this tonight.

Today, ABC News posted an article saying the SAG Awards are a good predictor of the upcoming Academy Awards. Both 12 Years a Slave and American Hustle are favorites this year. So like every other awards show the past two years, I’m sure we’ll be provided with more gif-worthy actions thanks to Jennifer Lawrence.

Tonight, the stars will gather at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California, a place that is a seasoned vet when it comes to awards shows, having been the location for the Grammys, Emmys, and even the Academy Awards themselves.

The Shrine opened in 1926 and is one of the largest theaters in Southern California. The auditorium’s website states the theater can hold 6,300 people and has the largest proscenium stage in North America. Now, I’m no theater buff, so I just looked up this term. According to the Encyclopedia Britannica, it is “the frame or arch separating the stage from the auditorium.”

I’d love to be a seat-filler for an awards show one day.

Besides hosting awards shows, the auditorium puts on concerts, boxing matches (held at the Expo Hall), and other events . Upcoming concerts include Childish Gambino and Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds.

So, here I am again, back to adding things to my bucket list. If I can’t attend an awards show in my lifetime, I’ll hopefully catch a concert or other event at this auditorium one day. Until then, I’ll just watch from my television screen.
