Happy Birthday, Julia Roberts!

I called my cousin Abbey earlier today just to catch up with her, so I asked what she was up to. She responded with, “Well, I’m being a nerd and making a Pic Stitch of Julia Roberts’ quotes from My Best Friend’s Wedding in honor of her birthday today…”

I told her that wasn’t nerdy at all. What else would pop culture fanatics be doing other than honoring one of our favorite movie stars? Abbey honors her with a Pic Stitch, so I figured I’d honor her with a blog post (I’m writing and posting this on Julia’s birthday, so I apologize if the date has already switched to the 29th).

Abbey and I grew up often watching My Best Friend’s Wedding with our grandmother, the only member of the family that actually owned the movie. And it was on VHS, mind you. Today, both of us could most likely quote the entire movie and even sing “I Say a Little Prayer for You” word for word. I only hope my family gatherings around the dinner table erupt in song one day.

Julia Roberts has become one of the most well-known actresses of her generation. She brought us now-classic films like Notting Hill, Erin Brockovich, and Pretty Woman. I just watched Roberts’ film Mona Lisa Smile a few nights ago, unaware that her birthday is today.

Roberts most recently stars in August: Osage County alongside Meryl Streep and her My Best Friend’s Wedding co-star Dermot Mulroney. Rumors of Academy Award nominations for both the film and its actors are already circling.

When I traveled to London this past March, I desperately wanted to visit Notting Hill, the location that was the setting for Roberts’ movie of the same name. Unfortunately, due to time constraints, I never made it there. But, this gives me a reason to go back, if only to stand in the same spots as Julia Roberts once stood in years ago.

Julia Roberts is an Academy Award-winning actress known for her contagious laugh and winning smile. Emma Roberts calls her Aunt Julia and her friends call her Jules. To me, she’s an actress who’s filmography includes some of my favorite movies. Her films like Notting Hill and Eat, Pray, Love encourage me to travel, and I guess I have her to thank for instilling in me an adventurous spirit.

Happy Birthday, Julia. Thank you for the privilege of seeing you on the screen.
